How to automatically complete order tracking milestones via documents

Printing or uploading documents can automatically trigger completion of order tracking milestones. This article explains how to use this feature for improved efficiency in order tracking.

In the setup of order tracking milestones, event triggers allow you to set up criteria to automatically complete a milestone. This feature is typically used to complete milestones when specific events occur, e.g. from electronic messaging via air or ocean carrier or First and Last Mile service (FILAM). Scope also generates events when documents are printed (event SCP_PRINTED) or when a document type is assigned to uploaded documents (event SCP_DOC_TYPE_ASSIGNED). These two events also provide information about the assigned document type.

In the order tracking milestone configuration (General tab), both actual events are covered by an event trigger of (same) name SCP_DOC_TYPE_ASSIGNED. To distinguish between different document types, a criteria of event attribute 'mimeType' needs to be set to match the corresponding type of document:

Mimetypes of documents have a technical code and a human-readable description. The dialog to set a value for the 'mimeType' supports searching over the technical codes and descriptions to make it easier to find the appropriate type of document.

Voilá, next time a document of the given type (here: Proof of Delivery) is created or an uploaded document is assigned that type and this tracking plan is active on that shipment, the milestone is automatically completed.
