FAQ for CO₂e calculator
What exactly is calculated?
By default, all transport routes listed in the shipment are included in the CO₂ calculation. All shipments with a performance date since January 1, 2024, are calculated according to ISO 14083 (previously EN16258).
Each shipment in Scope from the Air Export, Air Import, Sea Export, Sea Import and Simple Shipment modules contains the CO₂e footprint of its total shipment as information.
In the CO₂e footprint dialog, the calculation scope can be selected. By default, the movement scope of the shipment is used. The corresponding transport orders are taken into account. It is also possible, for example, to have only the pre-carriage calculated, regardless of the movement scope of the shipment. Once a new calculation scope is selected and confirmed, the carbon footprint is recalculated. The table of CO₂e legs shows all the transport routes of the shipment. There is also an indication of which legs were included in the carbon footprint calculation.
CO₂e ENE vs. CO₂e OPS vs. CO₂e TOT
- CO₂e ENE: Energy Provisioning (comparable with WTT: Well-to-Tank)
- CO₂e OPS: OPERATIONAL, operational emissions (comparable with TTW: Tank-to-Wheel)
- CO₂e TOT: TOTAL, total emissions (comparable with WTW: Well-to-Wheel)
- The new calculation method also includes updated value descriptions and two new CO₂ values, which will be available for statistics and printing (in the business license) from 1 January 2024:
- Number of tonne-kilometers: Equivalent to transporting one tonne over a distance of one kilometer (tkm).
- Emission rate (g/tkm)
License model: CO₂e Calculator is integrated in Scope and you can calculate and display values for all shipments. In addition, you can pay for the transaction volume model to print CO₂e values on documents and use them in reports. For further information, contact your Riege service desk.
Call in Scope
- Open the program from the program overview.
- Click on in the title bar.
Alternative:
- Open the Extras menu.
- Select Calculate CO₂ footprint...
With a valid license, you can also calculate the carbon footprint of quotations. The calculation is performed per quotation option. If the calculation scope of an quotation option is changed, it automatically changes for all other options on this quote and all options are recalculated.
Data export
The export requires a valid license of CarbonCare.
Master data > Layouts
- Search word: AIR
- From the list, double-click the Air Export Terminal Details entry.
- Add CO2 fields from the available columns to the selected columns.
In the AIR custom layout, the CO2 fields are already added.
Freight forwarding > Shipment overview
- Click on (highlight) shipment
- Create report: Detailed (blue link)
- Search and select layout: AIR-Customs
PDF report of emissions per shipment
- in the Documents tab as CarbonCare Emission Report
- Overview of all values per route + their summary
Error messages
If the calculation bases in a shipment (addresses, dimensions, weights) are not filled in correctly, a validation error message is displayed. This error message directly explains what the error is and how to fix it.
Settings
Settings > Forwarding > Forwarding settings > Recalculate CO₂
Owners of a valid license can do a CO₂e recalculation of previous shipments. Enter the corresponding period (max. 3 months) that should be calculated. In order to calculate for a complete year, the process must be repeated 4 times. That way, you will get the calculation for every quarter. The previous year can be recalculated up to June 30th. From July 1, the recalculation can only be carried out for the current year via the forwarding settings.
