Scope Container Tracking Module vs Portbase Cargo Controller
Scope offers two options for receiving status updates for ocean freight shipments: the Container Tracking Module and Portbase Cargo Controller. These modules can be used separately or together, depending on your visibility, planning, and Dutch Customs requirements.
Container Tracking Module
The Container Tracking Module provides end-to-end visibility of container movements throughout the entire transport chain.
What information do you receive?
-
Container status updates from:
-
Pickup of the empty container at origin
-
Loaded transport and sea voyage
-
Return of the empty container at destination
-
-
Revised ETAs are automatically updated during the journey at container level.
When is this module most suitable?
-
When full visibility from origin to destination is required
-
When planning is mainly focused on transport execution
-
When discharge messages or automated customs processes are not needed
Subscriptions and costs
-
No separate subscription with external parties
-
Costs are included in the monthly invoice from Scope
Portbase Cargo Controller
Portbase Cargo Controller focuses on the final phase of the shipment before and after arrival in Rotterdam.
What information do you receive?
-
Revised ETAs, typically from about one week before arrival
-
Generally more accurate arrival times, as Portbase has early access to arrival information
-
Final status updates such as Gate-out
-
The discharge message, sent when the container is physically discharged from the vessel
Customs automation
-
The discharge message can be used in Scope as a trigger to automatically submit import declarations to Dutch Customs
Subscriptions and costs
-
The Portbase Cargo Controller module and per-container registration are invoiced via Scope
-
A separate subscription with Portbase is required
Using both modules together
The Container Tracking Module and Portbase Cargo Controller can be combined.
This setup provides:
-
End-to-end visibility from origin through destination
-
The most reliable ETA information close to arrival
-
Discharge messages required for automated customs processing
This combination is typically used when both operational tracking and customs automation are part of the process.
